Snowbird Season Trailer Rental Checklist: Englewood and Rotonda West
Seasonal life in Southwest Florida runs on two hauling weeks. There is the week you get back in the fall and open a house that sat through six months of sun, rain, and growth. And there is the week in the spring when you close it down, clear out what you are not keeping, and point the truck north.
Neither of those weeks calls for a truck rental or a dumpster sitting in the driveway for seven days. They call for a trailer for a day or two, on the days you actually load it. Our two utility trailers, at $50 and $70 a day, are the cheapest way in the fleet to do that.
Below is the checklist for both ends of the season, the trailer that fits each job, and the details that trip people up on travel week: ball sizes, plug types, yard hours, and the cancellation window.
The arrival haul: opening the house
Opening week is mostly one direction, out of storage and back into the house. Patio furniture and the grill come out of the garage or a storage unit. Mattresses and bedding that got sealed up need to come back. Lanai screens that came down for the summer need to go back on, and something usually needs replacing.
Then there is the landscaping run. Six months without you means the mulch beds have thinned out and something in the front bed did not survive. That is a nursery trip and a mulch trip, and both go in an open trailer far more easily than in a pickup bed.
For most of that, the 10ft Utility Trailer at $50 a day is the right call. It is 10 feet long by 5 feet wide with a fold-down ramp, tie-down hooks, and LED lights, and it carries up to 2,990 lbs. Patio sets, a grill, bagged mulch, and a load of plants all fit inside that number without much thought.
If the load is bulky rather than heavy, step up to the 14ft Utility Trailer at $70 a day. You get 14 feet by 6 feet plus mesh sides, which matters when you are hauling loose items, screen panels, or a stack of furniture that would otherwise want strapping on every side. Its payload capacity is 1,880 lbs, so it is the deck-space trailer, not the heavy one.

Read that capacity row carefully, because it surprises people. The longer trailer is not the stronger one. If you are moving something dense, like pavers, soil, or a pallet of anything, the 10-footer carries more weight. If you are moving something big and light, the 14-footer with mesh sides is easier to load and easier to keep contained on the drive.
The departure haul: closing the house down
Spring is the opposite trip. Everything is going out, and most of it is heavy or ugly or both. Six months of yard growth that got trimmed back all at once. Landscaping that did not make it. The garage shelf you finally admitted you are never going to use again. Old lanai furniture that is one season past saving.
That is dump trailer work. The 10ft Dump Trailer at $100 a day is the smallest of the three dump trailers and the starter size. It is 10 feet long, 72 inches wide, with 41-inch sides and a 7,115 lb payload capacity, so a full yard purge fits in one load.
The reason to pay the extra over a utility trailer is the hydraulic dump. You are not shoveling brush off a flat deck at the end of a long day. You back in, lift, and it is out. The spreader gate is the other half of that: it lets you meter material out the back instead of dropping it all in one pile, which is useful if you are spreading fresh mulch or shell on the way back rather than only dumping.

Two trips beats one overloaded trip. Open-up week and close-down week almost always turn into more than one run. Before you book a second day, check the weekly rate. The 10ft Utility Trailer is $220 a week against $50 a day, and the 10ft Dump Trailer is $444 a week against $100 a day, so by the fifth day the week has already paid for itself. Moving the golf cart or side-by-side
The other seasonal move is the one that does not fit on a utility deck. Golf carts and side-by-sides go into storage for the summer and come back out in the fall, and plenty of people bring one down or take one north at the change of season.
That is the 20ft Car Hauler at $135 a day. It has a wood deck, slide-in ramps, electric brakes, and tie-down hooks, with 20 feet by 83 inches of deck and a 6,850 lb capacity. Slide-in ramps matter for low-clearance loads because you set the approach angle yourself instead of fighting a fixed ramp.

Check your ball and your plug before you drive over. The two utility trailers use a 2" ball and a flat 4-pin connector. The 10ft Dump Trailer and the 20ft Car Hauler use a 2-5/16" ball and a round 7-pin connector, and both have electric brakes. Travel-week logistics that actually matter
Our yard in Englewood is open 7am to 7pm every day, Sunday included. That is the part seasonal renters care about most, because arrival and departure days are rarely Tuesday afternoons. You can pick up at 7am on a Sunday and be loading before it gets hot, and you can drop off in the evening on the day you are packing the truck.
The drive is short from most of the seasonal neighborhoods. Rotonda West is about 10 minutes out, Nokomis about 20, and Venice about 25.
Plans move, so book early and adjust later. Cancellations made 48 or more hours before pickup receive a full refund. Cancellations within 48 hours are subject to a 25% fee. If your flight shifts by a week, change it as soon as you know and you are outside the window.
